What the finger seeks
The examination is done by flat palpation, the tip of the examining digit moving perpendicular to the search line; once the taut band is found, the localized tenderness of this posterior point is positioned between the fingers.
The search is flat and deep, under the gluteus maximus that covers this region, in the most posterior part of the muscle, very close to the iliac crest and the sacroiliac joint.
