The muscle and the place

Soleus, proximal part, lateral side of the calf

sourced

What the finger seeks

Knee bent to a right angle to slacken the gastrocnemius — person kneeling on a chair or lying prone; the palpation is flat, against the bone, high on the lateral side of the calf.

Here the cord is not pinched: the muscle lies under the gastrocnemius and is sought flat, against the bone. The fingers slip under the edge of the gastrocnemius, behind the tibia and fibula, lift and roll the deep face of the muscle.

What pressure brings out

Pressure wakes a diffuse calf pain — its upper half, the back — that the person recognises; this spot is not linked to nocturnal calf cramps.

The pain gathers at the back of the calf, in its upper half, diffusely.

The authors give no spillover zone of its own for this spot; the projection to the sacroiliac joint described for the muscle comes from another place.

The technique

Invasive technique not publishable: the structured contract is incomplete.

Caution

No depth is published: the tenderness is met “deep, near the bone”, which names a backing (the fibula) but not a distance. The posterior tibial bundle is the structure to consider as soon as the approach nears the midline; the lateral approach toward the fibula moves away from it.

Convergence

This section requires a distance explicitly referencing this geometrically placed locus. A distance to its carrying muscle is never assigned to it.
