Upper trapezius, anterior border
What the finger seeks
The free border is taken in a pincer grip between fingers and thumb, lifted clear of the supraspinatus beneath it; on firmer tissue, flat palpation takes over.
The band is sought in the most vertical fibres, those running down from the nuchal line to the clavicle; further out, the fibres flatten and run almost horizontally.
